The day we get our history right is the day Nigeria will be better.
I have read so many history books about Nigeria but most of these history books are written by the white men, not until I met Dr Raphael James who happens to be the founder and Director General of CRIMMD – Center for Research, Information and Media Development. CRIMMD is a center that manages information; media and political research; biographical and autobiographical writings; documentations, exhibitions and script editing. A non-political, non-governmental, non-profit making but standard research developmental institution. CRIMMD is 20yrs now.
He also runs the CRIMMD Skill Acquisition Center for Women and by August 2021 ending he has trained a total over 7,000 women free of charge in different vocations.
He’s also a historic and educative tourist, in Nigeria and he has visited 33 out of 36 states of Nigeria and documented over 500 tourist sites in the last 8 years. He is the founder of the largest Photo Museum of Nigeria History with close to 40, 000 photos.
He has won a total of 202 awards for his commendable works to humanity. He was listed in the New Telegraph Newspaper of January 23, 2021 as Nigerian “Top Historian and Record Keeper” according the ‘Naija7 Wonders’ He was also listed among the 5 enterprising Africans for the last quarter of 2016 by the ‘African Enterprise Magazine’; voted “SDLG Africa’s Most Reliable Person” 2016.
He’s historical in knowledge. During my interview with him. I discovered that some of this history needs to be re-write because some are real while some are not. Dr Raphael Library and museum is really equipped and standard to the point. Every historical story, photos, information both old and new, even some forgotten items being used by us are found in this building. I was even surprised seeing that cupboard TV and that old radio box that today has been converted to MP3 which you can carry around in your pocket now. Wow!!! What a history. I bet you if you visit this Crimmd Library and museum, it will bring back your old memories about life. Things you think you have forgotten you will see it in CRIMMD.
I really learn Alot from this man. I think domestic tourism is not all about promoting only tour centers in Nigeria for Nigerians but also making research about the history of the old and promoting it to the world like I said from the beginning ” The day we get our history right is the day Nigeria will be better”.
(“I will still tell you about Badagry being the first colonial storey building in Nigeria and not first storey building in Nigeria”)
One thing that still baffles me about CRIMMD is free, some other museums do collect money before you go inside to feed your eyes, probably some libraries too but Dr Raphael James allows everything in CRIMMD to be free accept if you want to dig something out in 1706 about something, that is when he will charge you because of traveling here and there to get full details about your work.
Dr Raphael James is really trying and I think he needs support like getting a bigger place for his museum and library because he still has more research to displace but no space to showcase. If you have any good intentions to buy a good place for him to keep him doing the good work, please do so because this museum and library that conserves both history and research about the truth in our nation will help our forthcoming Generation to understand the history better.
Dr, I’m so happy seeing you in person and I believe both of us will go a long way in this historical journey to set things right in this country. Only if the country will understand the importance of history and not just history but also domestic tourism. Because somehow tourism is also related to history.
I choose the part to become great to my generation to come, no stories.
