I never thought of visiting the cocoa house at ibadan so soon. No until I found myself standing at the entrance of the Cocoa house. This building is very tall and giant in structure.
I was informed that this building is 26 storey, The tallest building in nigeria and also the first skyscraper in west africa.
The building was completed in the year 1965 at a height of 105 metres under the leadership of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo who proposed the idea of the building.
Cocoa house is located at Dugbe the heart of ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The name cocoa house was given to the building because it was built with proceeds from cocoa exportation and also because there was a cocoa tree planted in front of the building just beside a water fountain.
The building is used for various commercial businesses which launch different companies in it.
I never have any business in visiting any of those companies. Rather, I’m there to climb to the last floor to see the own ibadan , which I later did . It was amazing seeing the town of ibadan from the last floor of the cocoa house. Please take note you can get to the top by lift or stair case
Although, I never knew we have two museums inside the Cocoa house which is located on the last floor. They are:–
- ODU’A MUSEUM
- HALL OF FAME
